Keep your hands to yourself

March 8, 2020 by Scott Holmes

This afternoon I was walking a kept hearing a strange click or rattle sound with each step. It was almost like have two coins in your pocket, not enough for the full jing-a-ling-a-ling, more like two dimes quietly clapping together. That kind of thing annoys me to no end and is the reason I keep a change purse in my car.

Surviving the week and a visit from the in-laws

March 2, 2020 by Scott Holmes

Well, we made it through the week which wasn’t necessarily a given toward the middle of the week. My wife and I did the Vera swap-a-doo for a few days while she was mending from her ear infection, but she made it back to school Thursday after the antibiotics kicked in. At least until her school called at 8:45 AM Friday to say she had Hand, Foot, and Mouth and I ran over to pick her up.

laissez les bon temps rouler

February 25, 2020 by Scott Holmes

Laissez les bon temps rouler! Our Mardi Gras started about 10:30 Monday night when a normally steady sleeper Vera woke up screaming. After my wife took several trips upstairs to calm her we ended up letting her sleep with us. We don’t normally allow the kids to sleep in our bed, but she was clearly …

February 18, 2020 by Scott Holmes

On Sunday two of the four members of my family punched me in the crotch. One of them was me. It has proven to be great foreshadowing for the week.

The bizarre world of children’s books

February 11, 2020 by Scott Holmes

The bizarre world of children’s books One of the benefits of my son becoming a better reader, and starting to move beyond shorter illustrated stories for bedtime, is I get to read him books I find more enjoyable. I’m looking forward to not reading some of the same things for the 50th time and if …

My adventures in being a single father for a week.

February 11, 2020 by Scott Holmes

This was originally a series of daily Facebook posts that have been consolidated for ease of reading. Day 1. Today was day 1 of my lovely wife being out of town for 8 days, for work, in Hawaii. It was also my first day of being a temporary single father to a 6-year-old and 1-year-old. …

No, that’s not my wife’s van; or how I became a van dad.

February 4, 2020 by Scott Holmes

No, that’s not my wife’s van; or how I became a van dad. I drive a silver Honda Odyssey. It is a minivan. In fact, it may be the poster child of minivans. At any given point when I’m driving, there is another Honda Odyssey within roughly three cars of me. My van and its …

Just a Weekend in Suburbia.

January 26, 2020 by Scott Holmes

Just a weekend in suburbia. Cookie decorating at its finest! For those of you who enjoy reading this because you find my misfortune amusing, I’m afraid my weekend was fairly uneventful and thus this entry will not be funny. My wife is teaching a Thursday night class this semester, so the climax of my work …
